Alabaster Caverns
State Park, Oklahoma
Located near Freedom,
in the Northwestern
part of Oklahoma is
Alabaster Caverns.
The Park
has a lot to offer
to those
who love not only
Caves & Bats, but
those who like peace
and quiet from the
crowds.
Alabaster Caverns is
best known for being
the
largest public
gypsum cave in the
United States, and
tours run regularly
which are a MUST do. We have always seen
and taken nice
pictures of the
little bats inside
the cave, and with a
newly added lighting
system the cave is
colorful and cool
all year round.
The Selman Bat watch
is also an absolute
must see in a
lifetime experience,
more information is
available on the
Oklahoma Department
of Wildlife's
website. The
Selman Bat Watch
departs from
Alabaster Caverns
State Park and
Reservations are
required to attend.
One of our favorite
areas is located
behind the park
office, it is a
canyon area with
some of the best
hiking trails
around. The
adventurous can also
reserve the "Water
Cave" to actually
sleep in and with
the proper equipment
people can explore a
"Wild" caving
experience to go
where few other have
gone before.
(a
list of equipment
required is available
from the
park office).
The RV area is nice
with site number 10
the best of them all
with nice shade and
seclusion from the
rest of the group.
The tent area is
also very nice with
a small stream near
by for the soothing
sounds of water.
Show Caves of the
United State of
America has a
nice write up on
Alabaster Caverns.
Woodwardok.com
has more
information on the
cave as well as
local attractions.
