Cherokee State Park,
Oklahoma
Located
in
Langley and Disney,
Cherokee State Park
is near
Pensacola
Dam, and is
surrounded by clear
blue water from
Grand Lake. The park
layout is a bit
confusing due to its
4 different
locations, which are
placed above and
below Pensacola Dam.
The
Lakeside area is
above the Dam and
sits right next to
it, just off Highway
28. It offers a nice
boat ramp, a Picnic
Shelter, a nice view
of the lake side of
Pensacola Dam, and
has RV sites, but
they are a little
crowded.
Grandview
area has 4 RV sites;
they are very close
together and I would
consider this area
almost day use only
if it were not for
the fact that the 4
RV sites were there.
The park office is
also located in this
area, as well as
several picnic
tables and a
shelter. It is
located just off
highway 28 next to
the spillway.
Riverside
and Grand Cherokee
are both located
below the Dam. There
are no signs, so to
get there follow
highway 28, turn on
Park St. then take
Broadway Ave. which
also leads to
Grand Cherokee Golf Course
all the way to the
Park areas where it
dead ends.
Riverside is the
first park on the
left It looks
a little worn, and
most likely is
overflow use for
summer time RV
campers; however the
fishermen seem to
really enjoy the
access to the river,
and do quite well
fishing from the
banks. RV sites 5
thru 9 are along the
banks of the river
and a boat ramp is
available to use
there as well.
Our favorite area is
Grand Cherokee; it
is very nice, and
looks very new!
Grand Cherokee is
located just down
from Riverside area,
next to the Grand
Cherokee State Golf
Course. It has
several pull thru RV
sites, and full
hookups at most. Our
favorite sites in
this area are right
along the river:
numbers 5, 6, 11.
Please go slow and
watch for Golf Carts
nearby. Grandview
has modern
restrooms, and is
very well laid out.
