Great Salt Plains
State Park,
Oklahoma
Crystal Digging
should begin April
2010
Located near Jet,
Oklahoma, the Great Salt
Plains State Park is
one of the most
unique areas to be
found in Oklahoma.
We
love going to this
park, the whole
family enjoys the
area both inside the
park and its
surrounding area.
Just outside the
park is the
Salt Plains National
Wildlife Refuge.
The Refuge offers
wonderful bird
watching, and has a
nice visitor center
with maps and
information on the
wildlife refuge.
Crystal Digging
is our favorite
thing to do when we
go to Great Salt
Plains area, this has to be
one of the most
interesting a nd
fun experiences we
have had.
Great Salt Plains
State Park has
fishing, and the
Byron Fish Hatchery
is located nearby.
The Great Plains
Trail of Oklahoma
includes the Great
Salt Plains among
its destinations.
RV
sites are located in
a couple of
different areas, we
prefer the River
Road area because
the sites back right
up to the river and
offer a nice view.
Tent sites are also
available as well as
Cabins.
Great Salt Plains
Association has
very good area
information.
Nearby:
Railroad Museum of
Oklahoma,
Leonardo's Discovery
Museum,
Museum of the
Cherokee Strip, soon
to be expanded as
Cherokee Strip
Regional Heritage
Center, all in
Enid. Enid is
the largest city in
the parks area and
has many nice
restaurants and
shopping, we really
enjoy it.
Fun fact: The
movie Twister
was filmed in nearby
Wakita and they have
a neat little place
called the
Twister Museum
where and you can
see movie props and
get more information
on Twisters. |
