Lake Murray State
Park, Oklahoma
Located
close to
Ardmore, Lake
Murray State Park is
the largest, and
oldest park in the
Oklahoma State Park
system. We really
enjoyed our stay at
Lake Murray, it has
a lodge, restaurant,
large marina,
golf course,
airport, chapel, and
grocery store, so
just about anything
you need is located
right inside the
park.
We
stayed in the Rock
Tower RV area which
is a little more
secluded and it was
nice and quiet.
Elephant Rock RV
area is also popular
and is closer to the
action. The park is
very spread out so I
would recommend
deciding what park
activities you like
to do first so you
can be close to
them. For instance
Rock Tower area is
close to the ATV
area, Elephant Rock
is closer to the
Marina.
Tucker
Tower Nature Center
is a icon for the
park, it is the
largest nature
center in the system
and was the summer
home for Governor
"Alfalfa" Bill
Murray. I highly
recommend the climb
to the top to see
the lake views from
the roof lookout
point.
The
Lake Murray Marina
has boat rentals and
we really enjoyed
feeding the fish;
they were swarming
all over the place
and gobbling up the
food as fast as we
could throw it.
SCUBA
Diving is also
popular, the lake is
spring fed and clear
which make good
conditions for
diving.
Our
son really liked
Lake Murray, they
have lots of things
to do for kids like
mini golf, Frisbee
golf, good
playgrounds, and a
naturalist
activities list.
We
used Lake Murray as
a base to see other
attractions a little
farther to the north
like
Turner Falls in
Davis,
Chickasaw National
Recreation Area
in
Sulphur,
Gene Autry Museum and the
Arbuckle Wilderness,
these are all just
off I-35 and very
easy to get to.
