Okmulgee & Dripping
Springs State Park,
Oklahoma
Located near
Okmulgee,
I like to call these
parks "two great
parks in one nice
area". The parks are
actually separate
but only by a 3 mile
turn around the bend
and both parks have
nice little lakes
from which they were
named; Dripping
Springs Lake, and
Okmulgee Lake.
Dripping
Springs lake is
Oklahoma's first
Trophy Bass Lake,
and has 1,050
surface acres,
Okmulgee Lake has
650 acres, either
lake offers
excellent fishing.
The Lakes themselves
differ is depth with
Dripping Springs
more of a shallow
lake and on more of
a flat shoreline.
Okmulgee Lake is
more of a wooded,
rough lake with an
old dam that is
listed on the
Register of National
Historic Places
for its WPA
construction.
We
enjoyed the Hickory
Point RV area at
Okmulgee State Park.
The park is in a
nice location if you
need somewhere to
stay close enough to
major highways 75,
40, 44, but off the
beaten path enough
to feel like the
middle of nowhere.
The park is very
well maintained,
very clean, and very
well patrolled so
watch your speed and
enjoy your stay.
Okmulgee
hosts an annual 3
day
Pecan Festival
in June, and was a
1989 Guinness World
Recorder for a 40
foot diameter pecan
pie.
