Robbers Cave State Park, Oklahoma

Robbers Cave Fall Festival October 2010!!! Arts, crafts, good food, and a great car show, this is one of our favorite annual events!

Robbers Cave is located near Wilburton, tucked into the San Bois Mountains in Southeastern part of Oklahoma. This park is named Robbers Cave due to its outlaw past with the likes of the James Gang, Belle Starr, and other famous outlaws who came to the area.

A trip to Robbers Cave will not be complete without climbing the rocks up to the cave that bears the parks name - Robbers Cave. The trails in the cave area are not very strenuous, and the views of the mountains from the top are well worth the effort.

Robbers cave is a horse riders paradise with lots of horse trails to explore, and an equestrian camp area devoted to them. We found the hayrides offered in the park to be awesome, they take you up to Buzzards Roost which can only be seen by riding the hayride to the top.

Activities for the kids are everywhere, so meet at the Nature Center and get a list of the activities and the time they are offered. We really enjoyed the Hillbilly fishing; the kids make and fish with a cane fishing pole. We also enjoyed the personal tours of the cave area.

RV camping is very nice with several choice spots, we like "Old Circle Campground" sites #41, and #31 although most any site is nice.  Tent areas are offered in several areas, Robbers Cave also has Cabins, and the Belle Starr Lodge. Note: we have had a hard time with cell phone service at this park, but they do have a pay phone.

Some RV sites may be reserved by calling the park office.

Our favorite activity in the park is the cave area hiking. Plan on spending an entire day in and around the rocks, this area is also a favorite area for rappelling.

New to Robbers Cave State Park is D bar T Stables, Oklahoma State Parks newest Horse Riding stable. They will help compliment the vast equestrian trails available at Robbers Cave State Park.

Close by and well worth the drive is the Talimena Scenic Drive. Fall is one of the best times to visit and Maps are available.
