Roman Nose State
Park, Oklahoma
Roman Nose Lodge
Construction Alert!
Located near
Watonga,
in Northwestern Oklahoma,
this park is
named after
Chief
Henry Roman Nose.
Roman Nose State
Park has an 18 hole
golf course, and a
nice resort lodge with a
great little
restaurant offering
some of the best
pies around.
CCC structures are
still around to be
admired, and when we
were there quite a
few little springs
and waterfalls could
be found flowing
throughout the park.
The area surrounding
the park offers very
interesting terrain,
a hike to
inspiration point
will give you the
best view of the
park.
A
Mountain bike trail
is available with
varying levels of
difficulty. Checkout
Oklahoma Earth Bike
Trails Review
for more
information.
Watonga
Lake has winter
Trout fishing
from Nov 1- March
15. The lake also
holds a Trout Derby
and is very popular
with fishermen in
the Winter months,
you will need both a
fishing license and
a
Trout license.
RV
camping areas are
spread out, we loved
the "Canyon
Vista Area"
preferred sites
the best. It was a
pull thru, full
hookups, and a great
door side private
view. RV sites are
all first come first
serve, no
reservations. Cabins, the
lodge, tent sites,
and believe it or
not a "Rent a Tee
Pee" are other
options for your
stay.
This park is one of
our favorites
because of the quiet
location and many
activities for
everyone. We will be
back for the
Roman Nose Riding
Stables, and
beautiful hiking
trails.
The
town of Watonga
hosts the annual
Watonga Cheese
festival, and
has the
Watonga Cheese
Factory in town,
it is a fun place to
visit.
Hajek Motorsports
Museum, in Ames
located to the North
is a hidden car
collection worth a
trip, call ahead of
your visit to make
sure they are open.
Fun Fact: The small
town of
Okeene, Oklahoma
located just to the
north hosts
The Okeene
Rattlesnake Roundup
and it is one of the
largest Rattlesnake
Roundups in the
United States.
